First Aid Kits for Children

Baby first aid kits can be great in emergencies… IF you know what is in them and WHY.

 

Nothing is more appealing than a great looking baby first aid kit for you and your family however, if you don’t know what is in their and what you might use it for, it can quickly becomes a stylish mess!

 

Let’s have a look at common contents of all baby first aid kits and what you would use them for…

 

Disposable gloves:

Protection for yourself (the person delivering first aid) when caring for your baby who is injured.

Crepe/compression bandages:

Great for strapping sprains and strains, compression for injuries, create pressure for your child’s bleeding wounds and to hold dressings in place.

Triangle bandage:

Helps with splinting and creating slings for their little limbs.

Gauze (non-adhesive dressing) in various sizes:

Great for fragile wounds (adhesive dressings can cause damage when removed), bleeding wounds your child might have.

Adhesive dressings (Band-Aids, steri-strips, tegaderm):

Used for minor wounds and skin injuries.

Thermal Blanket:

Helps to warm our child up in emergency situations.

Adhesive tape:

Can help secure dressings, bandages etc.

Sterile saline solution:

To help clean our baby’s wound, cleaning of wounds and eye irrigation.

Scissors:

To cut bandages, cut dressings, cut chewing gum out of our little humans’ hair!

Tweezers:

To Remove Splinters.

Ice pack:

For first aid management of sprains and strains (RICE).

Burn aid:

Helps with minor burn injuries for our children(remembering this product does not replace primary burn first aid).

First Aid Booklet:

Information to support you during an emergency.

Notepad and Paper:

Great for taking notes in an emergency.

 

Remember: it is nice to have a pretty and stylish first aid kit in the cupboard however, if you don’t know what is in it or how to use it, it wont be very helpful in any emergency situation.
